Bud Clark Commons
The $28M Bud Clark Commons will provide affordable housing, shelter and services for homeless people. The facility is a partnership among the City, the Housing Authority of Portland and Transition Projects. The eight-story, 106,000-sf center will open in 2011. It will include a 90-bed men’s shelter, 130 units of rental housing, and practical services. The building will recycle water from washers and showers to flush toilets. The studios have bicycles racks, solar-heated hot water and exposed concrete floors. Exterior window frames, painted in eight alternating shades of green, are part of a design strategy intended to raise the bar for low-income housing, incorporating warmth and color, whimsy and individuality. GBS is the LEED/sustainability manager and commissioning agent for the project.
